Hi, I'm Jono,
Your local excavation operator covering Wyong and the northern Central Coast, with more than 15 years running machines. Builders, tradies and homeowners all get the same thing: the right size machine, on the day I said, with someone on the sticks who knows the ground up here.
Narrow Side Gates, Soft Ground and Everything Between
Two things decide most excavation jobs around Wyong. Can the machine physically get to where the work is, and what happens once the bucket goes in.
I run 1.7T through to 8T excavators across Wyong, Tuggerah, the Warnervale estates and out to the lakes. The 1.7T squeezes through a standard side gate for backyard work, the bigger gear handles site cuts, driveways and shed pads, and the tipper takes the spoil with it so you aren’t left with a mound of wet clay across your front lawn. Licensed, insured, owner-operated. You talk to the bloke doing the digging.
What Wyong Blocks Throw at You
The flats along the Wyong River and around the Tuggerah Lakes foreshore sit low. Dig a metre down at Chittaway Bay, Berkeley Vale, Gorokan or Long Jetty after a wet week and you can be standing in it. Wet ground changes how the spoil is handled, how the machine gets in without leaving ruts, and sometimes when the job is best booked. I raise it at the quote instead of discovering it with a bogged excavator on your turf.
Blocks at Warnervale, Hamlyn Terrace, Woongarrah, Wadalba and Blue Haven are narrow by design. You often have well under a metre between the wall and the fence, a paved path you'd rather not crack, and a neighbour's eave overhead. The 1.7T was bought for exactly these blocks and walks down most of them without lifting anything.
The coastal run from The Entrance up through Toukley, Norah Head and Budgewoi is largely sand. It digs quickly, which people like, but trench walls in sand don't hold themselves up. That means proper battering or shoring, and it means backfill and compaction matter more than they do in clay.
Head inland to Ourimbah, Kangy Angy, Jilliby, Dooralong and the Yarramalong Valley and the ground firms up fast. Reactive clay through Kanwal and Tuggerah, sandstone and shale in the hills. The 1.7T carries a rock hammer, and larger machines come in when the small gear won't shift it. Either way you hear about the change before extra hours get booked.
Trenches for plumbing, stormwater, power and comms, plus NBN pit and pipe work. Sandy ground near the lakes and the older streets through Wyong town both hide surprises, so I work off Dial Before You Dig plans and hand dig wherever those plans say to.
Overgrown blocks cleared, small trees out, then the ground stripped and graded so the new turf drains away from the house instead of holding water at the back fence. On the low-lying blocks around the lakes this step is worth doing properly.
Old driveways, paths and slabs broken out with the jackhammer attachment and carted away. Common on the fibro-era homes through Toukley, Canton Beach and Wyong itself, where the original driveway has cracked and lifted.
Timber, concrete sleeper, sandstone or rock. Mostly used up here for terracing a sloping rear yard or squaring off a pad on the hillier blocks at Ourimbah, Watanobbi and Wyoming’s northern edge. Walls over 600mm generally need approval, so I build to whatever your engineer or certifier has specified.
Laser-levelled pads for sheds, garages, granny flats and pools. On a soft or falling block, this is where the cost of the whole job gets decided, so it’s worth getting the levels right the first time.
Augered holes in a range of sizes for fencing, decks and pergolas. Consistent depth, which matters a lot in sandy coastal ground where a shallow hole won’t hold a post through a nor’easter.
1.7T mini excavator with augers and rock hammer, available wet or dry. Larger machines on request if the job outgrows the small gear.
Spoil, rubble and green waste taken away, either alongside the excavation or as a standalone run. Worth booking together, since excavation produces more material than most people expect
Not sure which of these your job needs?

Who I Work For Around Wyong
Builders and civil contractors wanting a subbie who arrives when he said he would. Site cuts, footings, service trenches and clean-ups across the Warnervale and Wadalba growth areas and the older parts of town.
Trades including plumbers, sparkies, fencers and landscapers who want a machine and an operator for the day rather than the cost of owning one.
Homeowners and owner-builders putting in a pool, a shed slab, a new driveway, or fixing a yard that’s held water since the day they moved in.
Three things to sort first. Each one saves money and saves arguments.
