Hi, I’m Jono – your local, experienced excavation expert in Gosford with over 15 years on the tools. Whether you’re a builder, tradie or homeowner, I’ve got the gear and know-how to get the job done right.

From Tight Backyard Access to Full Site Cuts

Most excavation jobs in Gosford come down to three questions. Will a machine fit? What’s under the ground? And how soon can someone start?

I’m Jono, and I run 1.7T to 8T excavators across Gosford and the surrounding suburbs. The 1.7T fits through a standard side gate for backyard work, the larger machines handle site cuts and driveways, and a tipper truck takes the spoil away so you’re not left with a pile of dirt on the nature strip. Over 15 years on the tools, fully licensed and insured, and you deal with the operator rather than a call centre.

What Gosford Blocks Throw at You

Sandstone

Much of the Gosford basin sits on Hawkesbury sandstone, and it can turn up half a metre down or three metres down with no warning. If we hit rock, the 1.7T carries a rock hammer and the larger machines can be brought in for anything the small gear won't shift. I'll tell you what we've hit and what it changes before the invoice, not after.

Tight access

Post-war homes around North Gosford, Wyoming and Narara often leave under a metre of side access. The 1.7T fits through most standard gates and can be walked down a side path without lifting your pavers or your fence.

Slope

Yards in Springfield, Green Point, Point Clare and the hill side of East Gosford often fall away sharply at the rear. That usually means benching, a retaining wall or both to get a usable pad. Worth knowing early: under the NSW Codes SEPP, retaining walls over 600mm generally need approval through Central Coast Council or a private certifier, and walls near a boundary can trip that threshold sooner. I build to whatever your engineer or certifier has specified.

Wet ground

Flat sections near Narara Creek and the Brisbane Water foreshore hold water. That changes how spoil is handled and when the job is best scheduled, so I'll flag it at the quote rather than bogging a machine on your lawn.

Gosford Excavation Services:

Trenching & Pit Work

Trenches for plumbing, electrical, stormwater and comms, plus NBN pit and pipe installs. Older Gosford streets have services running in unexpected places, so I work off Dial Before You Dig plans and hand dig where the plans say to.

Site Clearing & Turf Prep

Clearing overgrown vegetation and small trees, then stripping and prepping the ground so new turf sits level and drains properly instead of pooling at the low end.

Concrete Demolition

Driveways, paths and slabs broken up with the jackhammer attachment and carted off site. Handy on the older properties around North Gosford and Wyoming where the original driveway has lifted or cracked through.

Retaining Walls

Timber, concrete sleeper, sandstone or rock. Common on the sloping rear yards through Springfield, Green Point and East Gosford. Anything over 600mm generally needs approval, so I build to what your engineer or certifier has specified.

Site Levelling & Grading

Laser-level pads for sheds, garages, granny flats and pools. On a Gosford block with any fall, this is usually where the job starts and where the cost is decided.

Fence Pole & Post Hole Digging

Augered holes in a range of sizes for fencing, decks and pergolas. Clean and consistent depth, which matters more than it sounds once the posts go in.

Equipment Hire

1.7T mini excavator with augers and rock hammer, available wet or dry. Larger machines on request if the job outgrows the small gear.

Tipper Truck Hire

Spoil, rubble and green waste taken away, either alongside the excavation or as a standalone run. Worth booking together, since excavation produces more material than most people expect

Who I Work For Around Gosford

Builders and civil contractors who need a reliable subbie who turns up on the day he said he would. Site cuts, footings, service trenches and clean-ups on residential and small commercial jobs.

Trades including plumbers, sparkies, fencers and landscapers who need a machine and operator for a day rather than the cost of owning one.

Homeowners and owner-builders doing a pool, a shed slab, a new driveway or a backyard that has never drained properly.

Before You Book Excavation Work in Gosford

Three things worth sorting first. They save money and they save arguments.

  1. Free Dial Before You Dig plans. Order them at byda.com.au. Gosford’s older suburbs have services in odd places and the plans take a couple of days to come back.
  2. Check whether you need approval. Retaining walls over 600mm, significant cut and fill, and anything touching a drainage easement usually do. Central Coast Council’s planning pages and the NSW Planning Portal are the place to start.
  3. Work out where the spoil goes. Excavation makes far more material than people expect, and tipping fees are a real line item. I quote it either way so there’s no surprise.

Excavation Gosford FAQs

How much does excavation cost in Gosford?
It depends on machine size, hours on site, access and how much spoil leaves the property. A half day of mini excavator and operator sits well below a full site cut. I quote per job after seeing photos or the site, so you get a number rather than a range.
Can you get a machine into a backyard with narrow access?
Usually. The 1.7T is chosen for exactly that. If your side gate is around a metre wide with no steps or retaining, it will almost certainly go through. Send a photo with a tape measure in it and I will confirm before we book.
What happens if we hit rock?
Much of Gosford sits on sandstone, so it comes up regularly. The rock hammer goes on and we keep going, or a larger machine comes in if the ground calls for it. Either way you hear about the change before extra hours are booked.
Do you remove the dirt?
Yes. Tipper truck available with the job or as a standalone run for spoil, rubble or green waste. Worth booking together, since excavation produces more material than most people expect.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes, fully licensed and insured. Happy to send certificates through before the job starts.
How far ahead do I need to book?
We are available seven days by appointment. Contact us to discuss your project and a suitable time.
